Following the Battle of Naboo, the Jedi were asked to mediate a negotiated truce between the ruling Lannik monarchy and the Red Iaro, a terrorist group on Lannik with goals of overthrowing the ruling Lannik government. Depa Billaba traveled to Malastare where the negotiations were to take place during the Vinta Hravest podrace. Unfortunately, the negotiations were simply a ruse in order for the Red Iaro terrorists to ambush and assassinate the Jedi. The Jedi survive the attack and return to the meeting place to find the Lannik priest held hostage by the terrorists. The Red Iaro leader unleashed akk dogs against Depa and the Jedi to cover his escape. However, the terrorist leader attempted to escape by jetpack, which malfunctioned during the escape and sent him on a collision path with a podracer resulting in his death.

Following the death of the terrorist leader, Jedi Master Mace Windu was concerned over the leader's use of akk dogs, which were native to Master Windu's homeworld of Haruun Kal. The terrorist leader's use of akk dogs meant someone was smuggling the sacred creatures off Haruun Kal and selling them on the black market to be used as guard and attack dogs. While the rest of the Jedi left Malastare for Coruscant, Mace Windu planned on traveling to Nar Shaddaa to investigate the smuggling operation. Jedi Master Depa Billaba joined her former teacher in his search. On Nar Shaddaa, Depa and Mace battled street thugs and vrblthers as they followed the trail of the akk dogs. The pair even ran into Jedi Master Quinlan Vos who was on Nar Shaddaa on a mission with his Padawan, Aayla Secura.

Master Vos informed Mace and Depa that the Circus Horrificus were using the akk dogs in their shows and gave them directions on where they could find the event. The two crashed right into the middle of the event, which was run by Gargonn the Hutt. Gargonn unleashed more akk dogs to attack Depa and Mace, but Mace managed to apprehend Gargonn and shut Circus Horrificus down.

The next few years would see the galaxy descend once again into turmoil as a Separatist crisis threatened to tear the galaxy apart. The crisis eventually dissolved into war when the Jedi traveled to Geonosis in an attempt to stop the Separatists from unleashing their droid army against the Republic. While many of the Jedi stationed on Coruscant joined the strike team led by Master Windu, Depa Billaba remained on Coruscant to keep watch of the younglings in the Jedi Temple.
